FAQs
1. What is Lamina Stone?
Lamina Stone is a high-end, ultra-thin natural stone slab system. Each slab is just 7mm thick, up to 60x stronger than classic 20mm stone, and engineered to be lightweight, durable and easy to work with for a wide range of architectural applications.
2. Is it real stone or a look-alike product?
It is genuine natural stone, not a print or imitation. Lamina combines a thin layer of real stone with advanced backing technology to deliver strength and stability at a much lighter weight.
3. Where can Lamina Stone be used?
Lamina Stone is suitable for:
• Interiors: walls, joinery, feature panels, bathrooms, kitchens
• Exteriors: façades, cladding, entryways, columns
• Outdoor living: BBQ areas, outdoor kitchens, alfresco zones
• Commercial spaces: lobbies, receptions, retail, hospitality fit outs
Always follow our installation guidelines and consult your builder/installer for specific project suitability.
4. How strong is a 7mm slab really?
Thanks to its engineered backing, Lamina Stone is designed to be up to 60x stronger than traditional 20mm stone slabs, while being significantly lighter. This allows for large format applications with reduced risk of cracking compared to conventional thick stone, when installed correctly.
5. Is Lamina Stone suitable for Australian conditions?
Yes. Lamina Stone has been selected and engineered with Australian and New Zealand conditions in mind, including high UV, temperature changes and coastal environments. As with any natural stone, correct installation and detailing (movement joints, drainage, waterproofing, etc.) are essential.
6. Can it be used outside on façades and entry doors?
Absolutely. Lamina Stone is an excellent option for:
• External façades and feature walls
• Stone-clad entry doors (with suitable door systems)
• Outdoor BBQs and kitchens
• Indoor kitchens and fireplaces
• Bathrooms wet areas
• Vanities, Cupboards & drawer faces
Because it’s lightweight, it can often be used where traditional thick stone would be too heavy or impractical, provided the substrate and fixing system are appropriate.
7. What sizes and formats are available?
Lamina Stone is supplied in large-format slabs suitable for minimising joints and creating a seamless look. Specific slab sizes, colours and finishes can vary by range and batch, so please contact us or visit the showroom for current availability and options.
8. How heavy is Lamina Stone compared to traditional stone?
Although it’s real stone, the reduced thickness (5mm) plus engineered backing mean Lamina Stone is significantly lighter than standard 20mm slabs. This can reduce structural loads and make handling and installation easier, especially on walls, doors and façades.
On average our slabs are 14kg/m2
9. How is Lamina Stone installed?
Installation will depend on the application (interior wall, façade, joinery, door, BBQ, etc.), but generally involves:
• Suitable substrate preparation
• Approved adhesives and/or mechanical fixings
• Following our installation guidelines and best practice for movement joints, waterproofing and edge detailing
We recommend using experienced stonemasons, tilers or façade installers familiar with large-format materials. Our team can connect you with trusted installers or provide guidance to your trades.
10. Is there a warranty?
Yes. Lamina Stone comes with a 5-year warranty when installed in accordance with our guidelines and using approved systems. Warranty terms vary by application, so please speak with us for full details.
11. How do I clean and maintain Lamina Stone?
Day-to-day, Lamina Stone can be cleaned with:
• A soft cloth or mop
• PH-neutral stone cleaner or mild detergent
• Avoiding harsh acids, abrasives or bleach
Some finishes may benefit from sealing, depending on the application (e.g. wet areas, BBQ surrounds). We can recommend suitable sealers and maintenance products for your chosen stone.
12. Is Lamina Stone suitable for bathrooms and wet areas?
Yes, many Lamina Stone finishes are suitable for bathroom walls, showers and other wet areas, when installed over suitable waterproofing with the correct adhesive and detailing. Slip resistance, sealing and drainage should always be considered in design.
